IlluminateAI’s deep tech breakthrough has earned the support and attention of trusted partners such as e.l.f. Beauty, Clarins – and more in development –  by pioneering measurement-based beauty personalization. tBacked by science, our software instantly and accurately measures skin, matching clients to their best products based on their actual skin tone and undertone and generating first-party data on what customers actually look like .For the first time, selfies are measurement tools leading you to your best products, and customers are not left to guess, take ambiguous surveys or know their own undertone in order to purchase color cosmetics with confidence.

While our core breakthrough enables smartphones to accurately measure skin and transforms smartphones into scientifically precise measurement tools, our deep tech team has developed a three-channel approach R&D process which brings together decades of experience in imaging, illumination, spectroscopy and beauty. This combination of accurate data on skin, accurate data on product and expert-trained AI recommendation algorithms is what allows us to deliver trustworthy product recommendations.

In addition to our tech breakthrough, the team tests every product our tool is connected to in the lab. This testing accounts for the variables in formulation, from serum-like foundation to matte coverage, concealers and products containing sunscreen. We test what is in the bottle and factor in density, coverage and wear.

Additionally, the illuminateAI team tests color products on skin. For over 2 years, the team has tested each product on groups of 50 or so people at a time, with diverse skintones, and analyzes the color match using illuminateAI tech, a colorimeter and the expertise of a seasoned makeup artist, to understand every variable involved in science-backed shade matching.

Our scientists and beauty industry experts, working alongside our first commercial partners have helped us shape our product to serve the needs of beauty brands, retailers and consumers. And our underlying skin-measurement breakthrough paves the way for our R&D roadmap to continue beyond color into skincare, dermatology and telehealth applications.
